When Service Professor began including Ford Transit vans on their service routes, Hackney was able to supply them with the same quality, lightweight shelving and bins as the P2000 units for their van inventory management system. Paul Herioux, the Lead Mechanic with Service Professor, has been a mechanic in the automatic repair industry for over 30 years. He has extensive knowledge of various manufactures shelving units as well as having worked as a Ford Tech when the Transit units first came to the market.
We had a chance to speak with Paul about his thoughts on Hackney’s aluminum van shelving system and how it benefits his company.
“About 45% of our fleet are 14’ box trucks on Isuzu chassis most of which are Hackney’s.
The new Ford Transit vans are set-up using the same shelving system as the Hackney P2000 vehicles. The designed shelving anchor points fit beautifully with the Transit frame.
All of the box trucks used for plumbing and electric service calls are equipped with Hackney shelving. Our plumbing and electrical managers have designed the shelving and bins on every truck to hold the same inventory. That way the inventory is in the same bins with the same numbering system across the fleet. If a technician has to move from one truck to another everything is where he expects it to be.
When it’s time to restock, it’s an easy ordering process and placement back in the truck where each part belongs.”
