Hackney’s team stepped away from their daily work to help serve lunch to people experiencing homelessness in Washington, North Carolina. The visit offered an opportunity to spend time supporting the community that Hackney calls home.
Providing Meals at Zion Shelter and Kitchen
Led by Mitchell Lance, then Vice President of Sales and Marketing, the team visited Zion Shelter and Kitchen and prepared close to 100 individual meals.
The shelter reported that the food would help feed its patrons for at least two days. For the employees involved, this showed how a short volunteering visit could make a practical contribution to a local organization.
A Longstanding Connection to Washington
Known affectionately as “Little Washington,” Washington, NC has been home to Hackney since 1946. That longstanding connection gave the lunch additional meaning: employees were helping neighbors in the town where the company has deep roots.
Community involvement offers a chance to build connections beyond the workplace. This visit brought colleagues together around a shared purpose—providing food and supporting the people who serve those in need.
A Short Visit with a Meaningful Impact
The outing lasted approximately 90 minutes, but the meals provided support beyond the visit itself. The experience encouraged the team to explore further opportunities to volunteer in the months that followed.
Hackney’s community lunch is a reminder that making time to help can have a meaningful local impact.
